In case you haven't heard, the best writers are avid readers. I have always been inspired by the power of words -- how they can be wielded to influence people, to foster connections, and to shape worldviews. My background in language and literature allows me to bring a unique skillset to the table: expert knowledge of genre conventions, a solid understanding of how storytelling helps people relate to one another, and the linguistic and cultural awareness needed to ensure messaging makes sense from one language to the next.

Know thy audience.

My golden rule of writing. As a writer, I abide by it. As a teacher, I impress just how important it is on my students. Writing is communicating with intent--to inform, to entertain, and, perhaps most importantly, to compel to action. Effective writers are effective researchers; they understand who their audience is, pinpoint what drives them, and meet them where they are. Good news: research is one of my passions. It's no wonder I came from academia.

Creating to Connect

Community drives my work. It is what drew me to Reno in 2011. A self-proclaimed desert rat, I was raised in Las Vegas and moved to Reno to pursue my undergraduate degree at the University of Nevada. Upon arriving, I was overwhelmed by the frequency of community events and, more importantly, by the number of people who showed up in support. We truly are the Biggest Little City -- big like a city, little like a community. Over the years, this community has become a been a consistent source of inspiration and enrichment for me, and as a copywriter, I'm honored to contribute to its growth.
